I'm a smoker of 20+ years now and I have quit every year for the past 10 years. My difficulty lays in the first of your points, namely I don't really want to quit but feel I should due to health and monetary reasons. This is made worse by the fact that I actually enjoy smoking.

When it comes to quitting sites like Facebook, many will of course fail because of this first point. There is of course another layer that you have not considered. Facebook is a social site and it is part of our nature as humans to be social. So for those of us who might want to quit FB there may reside the unconscious sense the decision to leave is essentially one that goes against society and human behaviour.

To the last poster: I didn't make any specific claims about drugs. I can't make such claims because I genuinely don't know. However, I can state that for online sites, this is effective, and even generalize to a great extent and say these methods are effective for many addictions.

Of course, if there's a powerful physical component (like drug addictions or alcoholism) this can completely change the picture.

That being said, people go to online games/sites for a reason as well. I did address that in one of my steps: people need to truly *want* to stop the addiction.

I do not quite agree with your strategy if you were to apply it to drug addiction as it does not address the original reason the person turned to drugs in the first place. But that said if you were to apply it to something else like not eating sugar or something it would probably work.

Jordan, I agree. If there's even a small chance this could help someone, I am more than happy to have this link here. As well as offer any advice I could give (at least with regards to general addiction, not drug addiction).

Even though this blog is about addicting games, I suppose it is possible that someone with a drug addiction has found their way here. The link, similar to the previous poster, Chirs, that I put below is relevant for; drug abuse, drug rehab, drug treatment, drug rehabilitation, drug recovery as well as alcohol treatment success. Good luck to everyone out there.

Hi Chris. Although this is not exactly the point of my article I'm leaving it: if someone reaches it and has an Alcohol problem, then I hope he sees your comment and goes to the link.

It is my opinion that more people should promote a healthy and alcohol/ drug free lifestyle.

Also, if someone is addicted to alcohol or a drug they should seek help from an addiction treatment center.
