This has been the problem with twitter users, especially for newcomers in twitter. Sometimes we get information overload or doesn’t know who to reply or whom to listen to because if we are following thousands of people, it will definitely take a lot of time.

Thank you for the compliment. I actually passed through another milestone roughly when I was writing this post but haven’t commented on that.

As for what happens afterwards… it’s a more complex story. I may dedicate a post to that.

Hi Sam, It depends on what you define as ‘real followers’ – whether people who actually read your tweets, people who go visit your website, or people who are likely to buy a product if you advertise it. Each one of those is essentially a different parameters.

In my article I generally discussed the absolute number. Clearly many are duplicates, bogus, spammers, people who use Twitter on auto-pilot. However, it does seem to affect the way you are perceived in the Twitter community. In fact, I’m working – still not ready – on a second article which will describe the “next” milestone. I still haven’t reached it yet – but getting closer..

According to my twitter experience, number of followers doesn’t matter, its the number of real followers that matter. Because some follow so that in return you also follow them. This way you will be getting there tweets too. With there catchy tweets, it can be possible that they will generate traffic and we get a waste of time.

Mike, there’s always a financial incentive regardless of Sponsored Tweets- with a big audience there’s much you can do. However, Twitter is notoriously known for not being the best source of monetization. In other words, I think you should do it if you find it fun, but it’s way too much work if you want to do it for the money

As for what to say on Twitter, that’s easy. First, you don’t have to say anything – you can just listen, people constantly share interesting articles and quotes and what not. Second, when you’ve been in for a while, you’re bound to meet interesting people – and then it’s just chat.

Of course, just asking questions, reading what the groups say (i.e. check #SEO if you find SEO interesting).

As for the KeywordLuv – I know it sometimes has hiccups, seen it on other sites so I guess mine is no exception.

Interesting, I didn’t even know about Sponsored Tweets. I am fairly new to Twitter and only have about 30 followers. I’m pretty sure that most of those followers are people who followed me automatically. The trouble I am having with Twitter is that I really can’t usually think of much to say. What do I want to say to 100 people I don’t actually know in real life? I end up not making many tweets and so I understand that random people aren’t going to follow me for anything interesting I say. However, now that I know there might be a financial aspect to it, I might just rethink my shyness.

I know that there is at least one competitor. I registered a while ago the suggested price that I should ask for a tweet was something like $120 – which I thought is completely unrealistic. Unsurprisingly, I have received no offers.

There’s also Revtwt which I know pays per tweet, but as far as I heard (and may be mistaken – didn’t try them myself) they pay very little.
