Interesting that you mention @LovelyButton and your study. I was very closely monitoring O&#039;Brien&#039;s effect on her Twitter following for a few weeks because I had a theory of how this effect will progress. My intent was to write a post about this afterwards. However, my theory turned out to be wrong so that post was never written nor will it be.

However, what this does demonstrate is the enormous influence that having a major celebrity single one person out even in an almost casual way. @LovelyButton has more followers than many real celebrities who have been on Twitter for a while.

I especially agree with you that it is crucial to examine the characteristics of a user&#039;s followers to see if they are reaching (and interacting with) people who are themselves influential.
I like how you called out Conan O&#039;Brien as a special case - I wrote a piece about how Conan was able to influence tens of thousands of his followers to add @LovelyButton back in March, and I think it was an interesting case study of a particular kind of influence (one that, as you note in your post, may be exceptional, but interesting to examine nonetheless!
