Sometimes it necessary for context, but other times it just strikes me as odd because it can really get out of hand. My belief is that people who practice retweeting themselves regularly are just trying to boost their own presence on Twitter, skewing the metrics that measure popularity. I also used Truetwit for one day. I don't understand why they force both functionalities together: if you register to be "authorized" by the system, then it also checks everyone who tries to befriend you.
